The six comparison points that matter
- Contract and exit — term length, auto-renewal, early termination cost, and what happens if you close or move a location.
- Total cost — software fee per terminal or per location, plus the processing rate including per-transaction fees. A low subscription with a high rate is often the more expensive option.
- Offline behaviour — can you keep taking orders and card payments during an outage, and does everything sync back without re-entry?
- Hardware — is the hardware locked to that vendor, and what does it cost to add a till, a handheld or a kiosk in year two?
- Support — hours, language, whether you reach a person or a ticket queue, and whether on-site service is included or billed per visit.
- Data portability — full export of products, sales, customers and stock, in a format you can actually use elsewhere.
